The federal census shows Fayetteville’s population to be 7,394, a 38 percent increase from the 1920 population. Washington County’s total population was 39,255.
1934
Fayetteville’s first professional baseball team, The Fayetteville Educators, plays its first game at home as part of the Arkansas State League. They lost 9 to 7 to a Siloam Springs team.
1936
The Fayetteville City Council approves establishment of a city planning commission to "direct the future development of the City and encourage its social and economic improvement in accordance with modern city planning principles and to insure the orderly, efficient and economic arrangement and development of future public works projects."
1937
Fayetteville residents approved a $20,000 bond issue to build an airfield that would eventually become Drake Field.
1939
Altrusa International organized a Fayetteville chapter, the second in the state, with Sue Garrett Keller serving as its first president. The group’s first service project was a community playhouse.
